Employment Opportunities

It’s a great time to join the Department of Finance as we are embarking on a program of internal change that is modernising the way we work. Our objective is to be a more flexible, mobile and connected public service agency where staff enjoy a variety of interesting and challenging work.

In addition to our rewarding work, Finance offers competitive starting salaries, innovative development opportunities and much more. Finance is an inclusive organisation where diverse skills, perspectives and backgrounds are appreciated, valued and relied on. We strive for, and celebrate, diversity in our workforce.

Finance embraces diversity and encourages applications from people with disability. We are committed to making reasonable adjustments to provide a positive, barrier-free recruitment process and supportive workplace.

At Finance you will:

Undertake work with real impact on the lives of Australians. You will work on interesting projects and see the results of your work every day.

Experience a diverse range of project based work that will develop your talents and push your career to places you never imagined.

Work with like-minded people who succeed as a team. You will have the drive to work hard, deliver to the highest standards and achieve greatness as a team.

Enjoy a whole of government view and gain exposure to extensive networks and influencers who can help steer your career in countless directions.

Stream recruitment enables the department to carefully identify the capabilities specific to each stream and design a recruitment process to suit. In turn, candidates have the opportunity to target their application to a specific type of role and demonstrate their capability across a range of assessment activities.

The department will use the merit pools created through these recruitment processes to fill vacancies as they arise. The merit pools will have a lifespan of 12 months from the date of advertising.

At Finance, we have identified a number of professional streams that help guide our recruitment campaigns:

  • Accounting and Financial Management
  • Policy
  • Enabling Services

Recruitment for specialist and technical roles outside of these streams is also carried out as needed.

The Department of Finance is committed to supporting the employment and career development of people with disability. Our participation in APS RecruitAbility means we will progress an applicant with disability to a further stage in the recruitment process, where they opt into RecruitAbility and meet the minimum requirements for the vacancy.
